Happy Birthday Section!

Note: Excuse me for sounding pretntious in this section, but I'm proud of my site!

No presents necessary...

Wow. SMBHQ actually lasted a year! With all the other stuff in my life, and the devotion this page took, I'm surprised it happened. Lasting a year with such a strong following is a big accomplishment for a Mario web site out here, and I'd like to thank you all for visiting and making it possible. 54,000 hits is more than I EVER imagined I'd have for the site, and we reached it in just a year! That's over 1,000 of you crazy people listening to me every week! Wow! (The power!). Thanx to all of you if you submitted to the page, or voted in the poll, or just read one of my rants. It's a nice feeling knowingso many people out there like what you've done!

A Brief History

On August 1st, 1997, a then nameless Mario site appeared on the internet. It only got 25 hits it's first week (21 of which were from the creator) and didn't have much stuff up. Within a month, it was named Super Mario Bros. Headquarters and the sites presence was spread through the web on teh search engines. Every week there was just a bit more stuff up. A game summary here, a trivia question there, and within three months, SMBHQ was becomnig a center of knowledge for Mario stuff. In that first three months, Jay Resop and his Neglected Character page helped the site tremendously. During the next three months, the site kept getting information in the same, tried and true sections, until it hada small following visiting every week (100+ people a day according to my old counter). After the first 6 months of same old, same old, SMBHQ has seen a lot of very varied, off the mainstream stuff. New sections, some accepted (game ideas) some shot down (Purity test) popped up on the screen, as well as the talents of Mark Kelly and Adam Spradlin doing guides, comics, and cartoons sections. Those months saw quite a few counters, the Q & A section, a varying update cycle product page, a nw chat room (which is doing uite well) and even an image map at one point! At one point, recently, the webmaster of the whole site changed temporarily and Adam was the head of the page! SMBHQ has seen pretty much everything in it's year here, and there's still more to come...

The future

The future looks kinda iffy for SMBHQ. At the beginning of it's life, there was plenty to update all the time, whether it was a new trivia week or an SMB3 summary. Now, being the near complete resource that it is, SMBHQ doesn't have much otuside of the frequent game ideas that keep coming and the occasional Sprite sheet. In the next year, SMBHQ will probably see a few more sections (I'm sure I'm missing something ) and perfections coming in style and in general of the old tried and true sections, as well as the usual updates to incomplete sections that you've seen in the past. I hope you'll stick around!
